OTHER AMERICANS ON BOARD

I don't know about you, but I enjoy checking my email each day to find out who is sharing with whom on board. It is exciting to find out more about you and your background. But even more so, when I know that we are all learning together.

In the last issue, I began sharing about the Americans on our tour who had sent an email to OneList, detailing their background. We concentrated on those whose lineage is traced back as far as the state of Virginia. It's amazing how many in America look to Virginia for their heritage.

Now, I would like to focus our attention on the rest of those Americans who have sent to OneList. Hopefully, this will give us some continuity and try to establish a relationship for these. I would love to be able to say that I know where everyone of these fits into the great puzzle I call "The Peach Tree". However, from time to time I get a letter from someone new, and I have to scratch my head and wonder how this family is related to the rest.

On October 17 and 20, we received emails from CHRISTIAN BICKNELL. I was truly fascinated by the story of her family, however this is one I haven't been able to identify with any other branch yet. Perhaps, you can help. She writes:

"LORA PEACH, my great-grandmother, had a brother named JOHN PEACH, Jr. who was shot to death in Leipsic, Ohio." He had married a woman named Mae and had a daughter named Joanna. (This was most interesting to me because I am a John Peach who has a daughter named Joanna). Lora's sister, Elizabeth, married Lester Borden, and later died in Springfield, Ohio.

Their parents were JOHN HARDY and LYDIA PEACH who lived in Leipsic. "John was famous for his ice cream candy, which was taffy," says Christian. "The recipe was passed down through the generations. They traveled the fairs throughout Ohio in the summers selling this candy. I was told they lived like Gypsies."

Christian shares a lot more about her family, which you can find by checking OneList on these dates. There were a lot of Peach branches that have passed through Ohio, but I don't recall any that were located in Leipsic or even in Putnam County where Leipsic if found. I can't wait to find how they are related.

NANCY WATSON says her family is all from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. In the 1850 census, she refers to a JOHN PEACH who married Jane. He was 45 years old at that time. They had 8 children, CHARLES PEACH being the youngest. She believes this is her lineage, due to the fact they were in Mifflin, Allegheny Co., PA where her family resided.

GARY M. PEACH also comes from this area. He says his father is CHESTER LAWRENCE PEACH, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, now living in southern California. Chester's father was also a Chester, who lived in Hankey Farms, PA. Perhaps, there is some relationship to Nancy Watson's family.

MARGARET BROWN FEARN sent an email to OneList on Oct.23. In it she said her family originally had the name of "Poirier" and came to Quebec from France. Later on, some of the family moved to Franklin County, New York, and gradually adopted the "Peach" surname. Margaret's quest is to find out how and why they changed their surname.

KENNETH M. PEACH of Texas wrote on Oct.21 that his roots have been in Texas for many generations. He says his great grandfather was ROBERT GAY PEACH, who died in Colorado City, TX in the '40s. Ken is new to genealogy and knows little about his roots so far. Is there anyone who can help him find his Texas roots?

We are glad to have HELEN GUSTAFSON and BECKY SANDERS on board from the Minnesota Branch, whose ancestor came from Lincolnshire, England. Helen lives in Texas and may be able to help Kenneth with info.

We are also glad to have on the tour SISTER ANNE THERESE PEACH of western Pennsylvania. She and WALTER PEACH of Maine trace their lineage back to New Jersey, whose immigrant ancestor came from Leicestershire, England. It's exciting to have Walter and his wife, Arline, on board with us.

LOU PEACHEY wrote to OneList on Oct.18 about his Swiss roots through Moses Bitsche. Perhaps, there is someone on board whose roots go back through this line and would like to establish a connection with Lou.

In the next issue, I have one more group of Peaches I would like to highlight. They are of what I call the PENNSYLVANIA BRANCH. I have so much I want to share about them that it will take another issue to do it justice.

So until next time, happy touring. John H. Peach
