Nicholls who's family pioneered from the same town as Harvey - father of Lewis and Lewis's family, Wingham Ontario, Canada. The Nicholls settled in Cottonsprings, which was later named Davenport. Nicholls was the first postmaster and mayor of Davenport. Bertha's mother died when she was 6 and her father Harvey Jr. went up to Dawson, AK to mine. This would explain why cousin Bertha is in the picture with the children living with JS and Kate in census records, going to school in Seattle. This photo was probably taken on the now, Yale St, a home the Braces had on the corner of Lynn at Eastlake, it is now a brick apartment building. --- guessing photo is 1901 - noted on back. Harvey Jr. married again at age 64 to: Sarah E. McGlothlen but she widowed when Harvey 2 yrs later died in a Spokane Hospital after ankle surgery, complications. Together they had managed the Mission Inn in Cashmere, WA. She the owner prior to marraige. Sarah died at about 90 yrs old and is burried in Yakima with her McGlothlen/Knox children. Harvey Jr. is burried in the Cashmere cemetery 1909. His brother Lewis Brace died in 1906 and is burried at Mt. Pleasant in Seattle with Mary and Lewis children, Maude, Mage, Nick, Ben, Alice.
