Todd's Frank Sinatra Lyrics Page

Frank Sinatra, while not necessarily the "purest" singer ever, was certainly one of the greatest entertainers of this century.  I of course file away the lyrics of his that I happen to have CDs for.  There is a fabulous site already out there, The Frank Sinatra Lyric Site, but my collection diverges somewhat, and when I sent some of "my" songs to them, they didn't get posted.  I've also discovered a nice benefit to throwing my list out into the ether; many kind readers see what I'm looking for and send me lyrics.  Ron Hontz is generously going through my list making contributions and cleaning up the "klinkers".  Ron got me hooked up with "Samantha Stevens", who has done quite a few transcriptions of Sinatra tunes and is sending them along.  Don't think you have to offer up something; take what you want free of charge.  Larry Henares of the Philippines recently sent me his Sinatra lyric collection (some 760 songs!) and they have been added here. Larry wrote a nice essay on what Frank's music has meant to him, and I included it here. Later, Larry wrote Some Thoughts on Frank's "Last Songs".

Gregory Peck performed a poem of tribute for Frank in 1996 at a birthday celebration. Thanks to Veronica and Larry for contributing that.

Ron Hontz discovered a Sinatra Tribute Site in German. Most of the lyrics are in English, however. Click on the button marked 'Song-Texte'. Ron also discovered Rod McKuen's Sinatra Tribute, as well as Songs by Sinatra. Philip Stromer has also started another Sinatra Lyrics Site. Here's another good one, that took the lyric files presented here and added recording data: http://www.spiritofsinatra.com/. Mike also offers a rich multi-media experience.

You can snag all the 1320 files on these two pages (updated 01/26/03) in zip format (about 855KB).

I've set up a few sub-pages for songwriters who have contributed some great Frank songs:

Check the Other Artists page for other songwriters.

Patrick McAndrews has sent me Biographies for Gordon Jenkins and Nelson Riddle.

If the page has my name at the bottom after "trancribed by" or "validated by" then I've either transcribed it myself or validated it against a recording.  If it doesn't, then it's something straight from my database, and it's been snagged from somewhere else. Ron Hontz' transcriptions are quite reliable, though I sometimes will copy his transcription from a different version (different recording session) and paste it into a lyric field for a CD that I own.

I've linked all the songs here.  If a song is missing the lyric, there's an asterisk (*) at the end of the link, and I'm either looking for it or it's on my "to do" list to transcribe.  There's still a text file on this site that describes attributes of the song, even if I'm missing the lyric.
